The elementary school group is made up of students aged 7 to 12. This group meets on Saturday mornings from 9:30 am to 11:00 am.

Fall Term Course Description

Think it Through - Understanding Me

“Think It Through - Understanding Me” is a course designed to help participants build the skills needed to better understand their own emotions, reactions, and experiences while also recognizing and responding to the feelings and perspectives of others. Students will learn to identify and recognize their emotions and common triggers, as well as explore strategies for managing frustration and disappointment. Students will practice making appropriate choices when experiencing strong emotions and learn how their reactions can impact themselves and those around them. Students will also explore how to recognize emotions in others, read social situations, and understand that people may experience the same situation in different ways. By the end of this course, students will be equipped with a set of tools to better understand their emotions, manage challenging situations, and consider the perspectives and feelings of others in everyday social situations. Lessons will include manipulatives, examples, games, and conversational topics to build understanding of the content taught. After each lesson, students will have the opportunity to apply their learning through games and/or in a real-life setting with short outings to community events and places. 

Attendance in the previous term is not necessary to attend the current term. We will work to make sure all students have an understanding of previous topics to ensure successful completion of each lesson.

The tuition cost for this course is $1,560 for the entire term, which includes any admission fees for the community outings. 1:1 support is billed at $60/hour and is in addition to the term tuition.

The middle school/high school group is made up of students aged 13-19. This group meets on Saturday afternoons from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm.

Life Map: Recalculating Me

“Life Map: Recalculating Me” is a course designed to help students build greater awareness of their strengths, needs, emotions, behaviors, and the ways they impact the people around them. Students will explore what disability means to them, identify personal strengths and areas where they may need support, and learn to recognize and advocate for accommodations that help them be successful. Students will also learn to recognize emotional triggers, manage stress and frustration, and practice responding thoughtfully rather than reacting impulsively. The course will address personal hygiene and self-care. Students will explore how their appearance, communication, behavior, and choices can influence how others perceive them, as well as how their actions can affect the feelings and experiences of others. Lessons will include manipulatives, examples, games, and conversational topics to build understanding of the content taught. Also in each class, educator support is implemented in real-time to help students notice patterns, ask questions, and build confidence in social situations. After each lesson, students will have the opportunity to apply their learning in a real-life setting with field trips to community events and places.
